Nuit Blanche 09 : This is our second year attending the Toronto Nuit Blanche, dusk to dawn Art Festival. We must have walked 10 to 15 miles or more, crisscrossing the city core to visit as many exhibits as possible. This year, despite traveling light and leaving a 30 pound gear bag at home, I struggle all night to get the elusive, keeper shot. Oh well, after 10 hours we arrived back home at 6:30a.m. the next day, exhausted and pleased with the evenings entertainments.

Your Bio

Hello, my name is Steve and welcome to my humble photo gallery. I have owned a camera in one form or another for most of my adulthood, aiming to capture some of life's memories, also better known as snapshots. Since going digital a few years ago, everything changed photographically speaking by permitting more creative control over the captured image process. However, I still struggle with the hardware and the software equally, which should qualify me as a Certified Perpetual Newbie. Anyhow, this is where I park my images, gathered about from my wanderings. If you are compelled to pick a favorite image or leave a comment, please do. You the viewer determines the "Most Popular Photos" gallery content posted above.

Thank you for visiting.

OLD REDS : Wandering about the shoreline of Lake Ontario on a recent road trip in the Cobourg and Port Hope area, we stumbled upon this interesting little patch of real estate. Sorta like a graveyard for dead firetrucks, but really, they are part of a larger museum collection, patiently waiting their turn for refurbishing and restoration at the (humble) Canadian Firefighter's Museum. Mmmmmmmm, sure looks like a photo-op to me!

Pickering Pioneer : Fathers Day! The teen boys went that away, so the wife and I went the other and we found ourselves here, in an authentic, relocated pioneer village out, into the near country side of Ajax, in Durham County. I've ridden past this community project dozens of times on the road-bike and have never gone in, even though it's only a few short miles or so from our home. It was a pleasant day well spent and practicing my composition skills.

Winter White : Winter White : Yes, it's winter in Ajax again, east of Toronto and the winter doldrums leave little to shoot in sterile suburbia. The first week of February 2008 and three major snow storms have whacked us back to back in just as many days. A short meander about the perimeter of my neighborhood in the storms aftermath provides for a few photographic opportunities, despite the passing nasty weather. Bluewater Bridges : My favourite spot whenever I return for a visit to my hometown of Sarnia, Ontario, is under the twinned Bluewater Bridges where Lake Huron discharges into the mouth of the St.Clair River. Just a great spot to blow a couple of leisurely hours, grab some fries off the chip truck and recharge the old battery or watch the submarine races. Don't like the view? Wait sixty seconds and it will be something completely different! On the opposite shore is the American border city of Port Huron, Michigan.

TIN MEN : TIN MEN : The original "Ruffnecks".
I stumbled upon this interesting photo-op purely by accident while out on a drive in the countryside desperately looking for anything to shoot, when these stoic but handsome, full-size "Oil-Patch" workers appeared. They were found scattered randomly about a number of very old, still producing, low pressure oil fields covering several square miles in and about the town of Oil Springs, Ontario. According to the history books, this is the location where it all began, the first commercial oil well production in North America that subsequently started the global search for the black gold and where the Age of Oil all began. These remarkable full size steel figures were constructed by a local folk artist; Murray Watson (see link below). I understand that each one of these handsome fellas are modelled after real people (past & present) and residing in the local area oil patch.
